While even big-name Republicans were calling out Rove for suggesting that Hillary might have had brain damage, the top Republican political operative is doubling down on the criticisms, and even throwing in Hillary’s age as well.
Reince Priebus, Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), while speaking on ABC’s Meet the Press regarding Rove’s incendiary #brainghazi remarks, said that age and health are fair game if Hillary Clinton decides to run in 2016. He pointed to past criticisms of the Democrats of figures like McCain and Reagan, who were also judged because of their age, reminding everyone that Clinton will be 69 in 2016.
Clinton is viewed as a like contender, meaning that Rove’s attacks, as well as the recent Benghazi craze, are all opening the door for further criticisms of her in 2016. Nick Merrell, Hillary’s press secretary, said that “all he [Rove] wants to do is inject the issue into the echo chamber, and he’s succeeding. It’s flagrant and thinly veiled.”
